About Beyond Barriers

Built by a family who knows how hard it is to find help.

Our mission is to support individuals with disabilities, their families, and caregivers through advocacy, education, and practical assistance that removes barriers to care and helps people live safely, with dignity and belonging in their communities.

Our story

Why Beyond Barriers was founded

Beyond Barriers began with a parent and disability advocate who saw the same pattern again and again: families supporting individuals with severe autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and complex support needs were doing extraordinary work with very little help.

Too often, meaningful support only arrived after something went wrong — after a hospitalization, a placement, a call to law enforcement, or a caregiver reaching complete exhaustion. The help families needed existed somewhere, but the way to reach it was unclear, slow, or closed.

Beyond Barriers was envisioned to help families move past those barriers through prevention, advocacy, education, practical assistance, and community support — so that stability is something families can build toward, not something they have to earn through crisis.

You are not alone. Help can start today.

Who Beyond Barriers supports

Individuals with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), and complex support needs — particularly individuals who require intensive assistance — along with the families and caregivers who support them.
